Federica Chiocchetti

Professor

Curator, writer and editor. Particular research interests include the relationship between photography and fictions, photo-text intersections, the archive and vernacular photography, the photobook, the curatorial practice and online platforms.

Education
She is working on her PhD in Photography, Fictions and Text from the University of Westminster. She holds an MA in Comparative Literature from the University College of London and a MSc in Book Publishing from the University of Milan.

Work Experience
Founding director of the photo-literary platform Photocaptionist. Guest curator of Jaipur Photo Festival 2017. Previously she was Art Fund Curatorial Fellow of Photographs at the Victoria and Albert Museum (2015), she collaborated with the Archive of Modern Conflict (2013-14) and was assistant curator of FORMAT International Photography Festival (2012-13).

Teaching
Visiting lecturer and guest speaker at several international universities, institutions, festivals and fairs, including Ithaca College (NY), IMT School of Advanced Studies (Lucca, Italy), Vienna Art Week, The Photograpers’ Gallery and the Science Museum in London, London College of Communication, Nottingham Trent University, Daniel Blau Gallery and Krakow Photomonth.

Emerson: Presented by the Author (Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery, in partnership with the V&A and the Art Fund, 2015-2016), Amateur Unconcern: A Photo-Literary Fantasia (FORMAT Festival 2015), Tommaso Tanini’s H. said he loved us (Kunsthalle Budapest, 2014) and Amore e Piombo [Love and Lead]: the Photography of Extremes in 1970s Italy, co-curated with Roger Hargreaves (Archive of Modern Conflict at Brighton Photo Biennial, 2014).

She contributes regularly to international magazines such as Der Greif, Photoworks, Foam, Objektiv, Unseen magazine, EXTRA, 1000 Words, Co-Curate and The British Journal of Photography. She has participated as jury member to several international photography awards and portfolio reviews and she recently joined the Academy of nominators for the Deutsche Börse Foundation Photography Prize.
