The Staircase Design Competition

We’re looking for student-led proposals to reimagine and beautify the southwest staircases on campus. Whether it’s painted risers, a mural, a hanging installation, or something totally unexpected, your design should bring creativity, identity, and inspiration to a space we use every day.

Deadline: September 30th

How it Works

  • Form a team of up to 5 students
  • Submit a proposal that includes:
  • Visuals – Sketches, mockups, mood boards, reference images, and/or prototypes
  • Concept description – What is your idea and what’s the message or feeling behind it?
  • Timeline – How long would it take to complete?
  • Materials– Include materials and tools required to execute the project idea

Things to Consider

  • Designs should be safe and respectful of the shared space.
  • For example, if you want to hang things from the ceiling or have things sticking out of the walls, be sure to keep in mind the minimum space required to safely access the stairs
  • The project should also comply with fire hazard regulations, and we may ask you for modifications if your project does not meet applicable standards
  • Think about how your design connects to community, identity, sustainability, or inspiration
  • You’re welcome to use materials from PCA’s studio resources and workshops

What’s at Stake?

The winning design will be selected by a panel of faculty and staff, and the team will bring it to life during the first weeks of the semester with full support from PCA facilities and staff.

Your name(s) will be attached to the work, and it will be displayed for up to two academic years. In addition to the honor of having your work featured in the heart of our campus, a €100 gift card will be awarded to the selected group.

We can’t wait to see how you will transform our campus and make it feel even more like home!
