The Paris College of Art Foundation course is built on the philosophy handed down from a century of artists, designers, and educators that there are common skills and approaches to all fields of art and design that are dynamic when taught together.
In the Foundation course we teach students to be constantly looking for creative solutions to unexpected constraints. In this spirit, we have developed the ‘Foundation Online: Pathway to Paris’ course in response to the current world situation, as a way to engage students in the Foundation experience remotely if they can’t join us in person this fall.
Below you will find answers to many questions about Foundation Online: Pathway to Paris.

FAQs – Online Foundation: Pathway to Paris
During the fall semester you will complete weekly assignments that parallel those offered in the face-to-face classes in Drawing, Materials and Dimensions and Introduction to Digital Media, with the possibility to earn 8 studio credits toward degree completion and 3 liberal studies credits through an online course in Positive Psychology. The program will follow a recurrent weekly structure: Each week we announce a new challenge and then tackle it first through drawing, then experiment in 2 and 3 dimensions, and finally translate it digitally.
We will provide you with exercise books designed by Chloe Briggs, the Head of Foundation and Founder of ‘Drawing is Free’, instructional videos, one-to-one tutorials, peer-to-peer learning, and special live events.
Paris College of Art brings together students from all over the world to work across disciplines and collaboratively: imaginations combining in a form of laboratory for future creativity. Eyes and minds are opened up. The online course will establish and maintain these essential student connections through allocated time for peer-to-peer exchange and collaborative work.
We will help you to recreate the energy that we generate in studio classes in your home. You will be expected to use basic tools that are to hand, and to work predominantly with recycled materials, in keeping with our commitment to ecological responsibility. We will begin the course with guidelines and inspiration about how to set up your art-school at home.
When you arrive on the PCA campus in January 2021, you will complete the required spring courses alongside your peers who have been taking in-person classes in the fall, and in addition you will take the City As Studio class that will allow you to explore Paris through the eyes of an artist. At the end of your first year (in May 2021), if you have successfully completed all of your courses you will have earned a total of 27 credits.
In the spring semester of 2021 you will chose your major and then in your sophomore (second) year you will take the required core courses in your chosen degree (see detailed curriculum tables on the each of the department pages of this site). In addition you will be required to complete the art history course Introduction to Art and Design and the liberal studies course Critical Thinking and Writing. You should be able to complete these during the regular academic year without paying for extra credits.
The tuition costs for the online Foundation fall semester is 6,500 euros. This special rate is not eligible for financial assistance. Students wishing to apply for financial assistance for the spring 2021 semester are encouraged to do so at the time of initial application, but will have until October 15th to complete their application. Tuition for the spring semester will be 14,000 euros.
