PCA’s Fine Arts Department has the pleasure to announce the opening of I never promised you a stone garden, an exhibition at the Fiminco Foundation, in partnership with Le Printemps du Dessin and the Foundation, during the Drawing Now Art Fair, on March 20, 2023.

The event will be hosting a number of drawing workshops open to the public (but limited in places). Please reserve your participation promptly.

During the week of Drawing Now, Véronique Devoldère and Didier Clain, both fine artists, will offer performative workshops aroung drawing. With the support of the Fiminco Foundation, Paris College of Art, the Printemps du Dessin, and curated by Jan-Philipp Fruehsorge, I never promised you a stone garden is a work that questions drawing and its new challenges. From the obsession with the gesture, drawing, erasing, repeating, fragmenting, withdrawing, organizing, and opposing to the revelation of another garden, the spectators are invited to participate in these workshops and dialogue with the drawings. During the workshops, the newly created drawings activate the performance in resonance with the works completed in collaboration for this even

Devoldère and Clain investigate a field of cultural dichotomies in that different traditions of gardens in the West and East operate with opposing principles. In the ornamental and geometric order of the Occident, the legitimation of domination manifests itself, while the Japanese garden always sets the visitor in motion, enabling him to enjoy the view through a change of perspective. Stones are in this dialogue of ideas, material, and sign object. The exhibition becomes an installation that links these divergent lines in space in order to bring them together in discourse.
