“We knew it before, but now it can’t honestly be denied: what we capture with a camera is not the reality. Just a reality. A framed and static one.”

Klaus Fruchtnis, Chair of the PCA BFA and MA Photography programs, interviews Marc Lathuillière for the online photography publisher Urbanautica.

Marc, photographer and “stereotype hunter” was invited as a member of the jury of the photo exhibition of the Photography class of ’15.

In this conversation, Fruchtnis invites Lathuillière to share memories of his first shots, along with his research methods and concepts. After reading about the source of the photographer’s drive to go against stereotypes vastly spread by the press or commercial photography, you will want to know more about his 11-year long project of collecting portraits throughout France, and his collaboration with Michel Houellebecq on the concept of “museification”, which you can find in his book “Musée National”.

Lathuillière also reflects on the evolution and future of photography, and will leave you with ideas on how to find inspiration.
