LUNCH TALK_Thursday November 28th 1-2pm_ Design Hub (room 109) with guest speaker designer Guillian GRAVES, founder of BIG BANG PROJECT, a practice that mobilises design, science and technology in the service of all living things: both within society and the environment.
Based in Paris, the design practice places use, users and the environment at the heart of its thinking – the agency’s aim is to draw on the sciences (primarily biology, but also chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science) and technologies to provide a creative response to the major challenges of today and tomorrow. Resolutely and systematically multidisciplinary, the practice works hand in hand with a network of scientists, designers and engineers to respond to problems in a concrete way that is rooted in reality, while maintaining scientific rigour. This approach allows for a continuous exploration of issues such as the future of housing, energy, health, food, mobility, sport and space. Depending on the issue in question, the proposed solutions can take on different forms – new materials, products (goods and services), experiences, places, forms of organisation, etc.
The agency is structured around three missions: Research, Innovation and Education: (1) Research, to produce knowledge and develop methods, tools and know-how to put science and technology at the service of life; (2) Innovation, to imagine, develop and bring to market new solutions in response to the major challenges of today and tomorrow; (3) Education, to share and pass on our vision and expertise to organisations and research centers through a wide range of media, teaching, conferences, publications, workshops and exhibitions.
