Social Media Art: Creating and Curating an Online Exhibition

Level: Undergraduate, Graduate & Young Professionals

How can artists use social media to show their works? To what degree can you curate a show on a platform driven by selective algorithms?

These are just a few of the challenges that the course will address by training you to organise an exhibition that will take place on public social media -i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. You will create works and curate the exhibition under the supervision of your teacher.

The workshops will be completed by studio visits with artists using social media as their exhibition space as well as galleries in Paris. Online exhibitions are already playing an important role in contemporary art. In the last few years, a number of main art venues hosted art shows accessible online only. These are events that offer a rather unique opportunity to explore new ways to make and display art at the times of Attention Economy.

This course will be an exciting opportunity for you to learn how to master the online tools in a critical way. You will learn the does and don’ts of the making and curating art on platforms that are used by more than 2 billion people worldwide, a number of potential followers that surpass the usual crowd of viewers visiting an exhibition in a physical space.
