Paris Café Culture: Create your Artist Book
Hone your artistic vision: draw, photograph, and write your way through Paris' cafés
What you’ll learn: Text and image relationships in visual storytelling; book/portfolio rhythm; bookbinding techniques; image style using linocut, papercut, collage, and photography; historical and sociological context of Parisian café culture
Where you’ll visit: Canal Saint Martin, classic spots in the 11th arrondissement, museums, various cafés around Paris, Musée de l’Orangerie, Sacré-Coeur Basilica,Parc des Tuileries, and more
Course highlight: “Act like a Parisian” activity: post-museum group discussion in a café about topic of choice + free write/sketch about that experience
Prerequisites: A keen eye for people-watching from café terraces and the willingness to take artistic risks, you should have basic drawing/artistic skills
Level: Open to all
When: Session 1 (June 17 – June 28, 2024), Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm
