MDES Blog: Enjoying Paris after Midterms!

Hello, and welcome back to the MDES blog!

We are finally free of midterms! After three weeks of intense work, I can finally say I feel a little bit more relaxed; however, our projects are continuing on as we get closer to finals. For some of our classes, we are continuing to develop the same projects. In the Social Entrepreneurship class however, we turned things around last week. We were introduced to two social enterprises in Paris: Popee, recyclable toilet paper, and The Trust Society, an online store of zero waste products. For each enterprise, the entrepreneurs had different challenges that they wanted us to focus on, and help them develop solutions. Both problems were exciting, though I decided to go with Popee’s since I found it more challenging. For this new assignment, I’m working with Man, and we are focusing on something sustainable that respects the values of the brand: ecological, non-toxic, and made in France.

But, it’s not just all work and no play for the MDES students! After the midterms were over and we had more time on our hands, Segyo and I decided to go and explore Paris during the weekend. We started at Bois de la Boulogne; to go there, I had to grab two lines on the metro and basically go all through Paris, but finally, I got there and Segyo was waiting for me in the bus station. We walked for 10 minutes, and we arrived at Foundation Louis Vuitton, it was amazing! I had never seen any of Frank Gehry’s buildings, and it’s definitely one of the most impressive buildings I’ve seen in my life. We walked around the park, and we sat watching people fishing and hanging around. It was a great day for a picnic, with no rain and lovely weather. After that I was starving so we decided to go around Grand Boulevards to grab a bite. We chose to end our day at the Champs-Élysées.  We tried to go up the Arc de Triomphe, but the queue was too long, and we weren’t that patient! So, that was the end of our Saturday of exploration.

Paris is getting colder as we get closer to the end of the semester.  We are now entering Week 10 and learning more and more. I’ll be back before12, with more news about our projects and life in Paris!
