Charlotte Houette
Charlotte Houette (born 1983, France) is a Paris-based painter known for her innovative exploration of perception and form. Her abstract works combine distorted geometries and optical effects, creating a dynamic interplay between flatness and depth. By using rectilinear cutouts and movable elements within the canvas, she invites viewers to engage with her paintings in a way that challenges conventional spatial perception.
In addition to her painting, Houette is deeply committed to education and the exchange of ideas. In 2016, she co-founded The Cheapest University, an experimental art school dedicated to exploring alternative models of education in the arts. Alongside Clara Pacotte, she also launched EEAPES, a journal focused on the collective translation of feminist science fiction texts. Houette has participated in numerous workshops at leading international art schools and has been a guest lecturer at institutions worldwide. She studied at the prestigious Beaux Arts de Paris and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, experiences that profoundly shaped her approach to both art and pedagogy.
Houette’s work is represented by High Art gallery and has been shown in major solo and group exhibitions across Europe. Her solo exhibitions include High Art (Arles), CAC Bretigny (Bretigny), and the LUMA Foundation (Arles), while her group exhibitions feature at the Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris) and the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh (Arles).
