Education

In 2022 Tezkan completed her PhD in practice-based research in fine arts at École Supérieure d’Art de Clermont Métropole and she graduated from Sorbonne Nouvelle University in 2012 with a PhD in aesthetics.

She was an artist-in-residence at the Coopérative de la Recherche (École Supérieure d’Art de Clermont Métropole) from 2018 until 2022.

Teaching

Melis Tezkan currently teaches performance, sound, audio-visual art practices at the Grenoble-Valence Fine Arts University (École Supérieure d’Art de Grenoble Valence). She has been invited to give lectures and workshops at art schools, universities and festivals in France, Turkey, Germany and Austria.

Professional Experience/Clients

Tezkan’s various projects, both individual and collaborative, focus on how emotional experiences can be a possible source of knowledge.

A driving force in her work is long-standing collaboration. Tezkan and Okan Urun founded biriken in 2006. The artist duo uses various mediums such as theater, performance, video, installation. Their works have been invited to international festivals, exhibitions and biennials such as De Keuze International, iDANS Festival, Jerk Off Festival, Les Subs, Istanbul Theatre Festival, Pera Museum, Sharjah Biennial, Under the Radar Festival, Wiener Festwochen. Melis Tezkan has collaborated with Nil Yalter since 2009. They conceived together video and performance works. Their work has been invited to festivals and exhibitions such as Temps d’Images – Garajistanbul, Badischer Kunstverein in Karlsruhe.
