PCA Alumnus Jeremie Queyras invited to present his research at xCoAx

“Since my early childhood I have been fascinated by Méta-Matic No. 10 (1959) by Jean Tinguely because of the strange nature of the drawings and paintings which it makes. I always wondered who was the artist of an artwork made by a machine such as Méta-Matic No. 10”

When Jeremie Queyras started his MFA in Transdisciplinary New Media at PCA, he decided to focus his research on machines that do what he does: paint.

In his Masters Thesis “The Human in Machine-Made Art”, Queyras wrote a comparative case study between the old drawing machine and an ultra realistic humanoid robot called Ai-Da created by Aidan Meller and Engineered Arts in 2019.

This allowed him to take a closer look at what happens when machines make art, and to understand what role humans would play in creating such artworks. After a research period of two years at PCA and upon graduating, the artist submitted his paper to xCoAx, and was invited to present his work during the Conference on Computation, Communication, Aesthetics & X in Weimar (Germany) on  July 5 to 7, 2023.

“This gave me the unique opportunity to present my research to experts in the fields of Ai, Art, Aesthetics, and Philosophy of Art. It was a truly enriching experience, discussing my research findings and making valuable connections for my future artistic and academic paths.”
