PCA Appoints Interim Provost Marisa C.Hayes

Marisa Hayes

Paris College of Art is pleased to announce the appointment of our interim Provost, Marisa C. Hayes.

With research situated at the crossroads of moving images and the performing arts, Marisa earned her Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College (USA) before completing a Master 2 at l’Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle in Paris with a focus on visual studies and art education. As a Techne Fellow at the University of Brighton (UK), she will defend her doctoral dissertation on the performance art films of Amy Greenfield in 2025.

Marisa has written extensively for international publications. Her first monograph, Ju-on (2017, Liverpool University Press), explores the links between Japanese dance and cinematography in Takashi Shimizu’s eponymous film. She is currently editor of The International Journal of Screendance and has received fellowships from the Fulbright Foundation, CEC ArtsLink International, Theater Communications Group, and the Ministère de la Culture in France.

International exchange is fundamental to Marisa’s work. She has served as a Cultural Ambassador to Hong Kong and directed the Erasmus+ summer semester in Paris for students of Inchicore College (Ireland). She has taught courses on the history and practice of film and performance art for American, French, British, Chinese and Italian universities. Marisa also regularly speaks at art institutions, including the Musée du Louvre, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), the National Gallery of London and Theater Freiburg (Germany). Recently, she has collaborated with the French Ministère de la Culture and the Centre des Monuments Nationaux. In 2009, she co-founded an annual dance film platform that she continues to co-curate.

I am delighted to arrive at PCA, an international hub of artistic excellence, where I will strive to foster a collaborative learning environment that provides students with dynamic opportunities for growth while responding to the ever-shifting needs of artists studying and working in the 21st century. I look forward to supporting faculty and students in that endeavor as we continue to expand our innovative and inclusive programs.
