What you’ll learn

In this course, you’ll develop a strong fashion-driven visual identity by mastering the foundations of cinematic storytelling. Through hands-on work in directing, shooting, lighting, and editing, you’ll learn how to translate style, movement, and emotion into compelling visual narratives tailored to the fashion industry. You’ll explore both classic and contemporary approaches to fashion film—ranging from editorial concepts to brand-driven campaigns—and analyze industry references to understand today’s creative standards. As you collaborate with models, stylists, and creative teams, you’ll gain confidence in guiding on-screen performance, crafting cohesive storyboards, shaping lighting setups, and building a unified visual package that blends film and photography. By the end of the course, you will have produced a polished short fashion film supported by complementary editorial photos, ready for portfolio or brand submission.

Places You May Explore

Set in Paris—the global capital of fashion and culture—you’ll immerse yourself in the city’s creative ecosystem as part of your production work. Expect to draw inspiration from fashion houses, avant-garde concept stores, design studios, historic and contemporary cinemas, and cutting-edge art galleries. Whether you’re filming on atmospheric Parisian streets, inside visually rich boutiques, or within vibrant cultural spaces, the city becomes an extension of your narrative toolkit. These varied environments offer a dynamic backdrop for experimenting with style, movement, and mood, helping you shape a cinematic world that reflects both your artistic vision and the pulse of Paris itself.

Supplies

While PCA provides the essential tools for the class to run, students provide their own supplies. A list of required materials will be shared on the summer student portal before the start of the program. Expenses for supplies are estimated at between €30 to €150.

Course highlight

A standout feature of this course is the opportunity to produce a complete fashion film in one of the world’s most visually inspiring cities. Students collaborate with models, stylists, and makeup artists to bring original concepts to life, experimenting with cinematic techniques in real Parisian locations. By the end of the program, each participant walks away with a fully realized short fashion film and accompanying editorial photographs—professional, portfolio-ready work created within the heart of the global fashion industry.

Prerequisites

This is a beginner-friendly, summer-level course, open to anyone passionate about visual arts and storytelling-no advanced technical skills required! Students are encouraged to bring their curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to explore the city and experiment creatively.
