Keiji Ishida
Crushed Can of Coke - Keiji Ishida

Keiji Ishida, future Foundation student – class of ’21, has won a Scholastic Art & Writing Award. The award, presented by The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, celebrates over 90 years of being the most prestigious recognition and scholarship program for teenage artists and writers in the U.S.

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers awards nearly $300,000 in direct scholarships annually to top Awards recipients. Keiji entered the Portfolio Scholarship, one of the highest achieving awards only presented to 16 graduating seniors (8 artists and 8 writers), and was awarded a Gold Medal amounting to a scholarship of $10,000. Scholastic Awards’ core criteria is originality, technical skill and an emergence of a personal vision or voice.

As a visual artist, Keiji submitted a series of paintings that reflect his vision of today’s political climate. The pieces that he selected showcase different stages of his life and how they have influenced his work. Reflecting on his own unique cultural background, he seeks to understand his identity and where he stands in this world.

Keiji will be joining our Foundation program in Fall 2017!

Congratulations Keiji!
