“I often think of my art practice using the metaphor of the slingshot. For the slingshot to work, one must add tension to the cords to trigger the catapult function. Keep pulling the pocket back and it must release, projecting itself and the object forward.

The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize competition was an opportunity to stretch the cords of my practice, playing with the tensions of ink on paper. I am proud to have all three of my submissions selected for the finalist round.

I know this accomplishment is due, in no small part, to the mentorship and guidance of the MFA Drawing faculty and the broader community at PCA.

Participating in competitions such as this are professional opportunities to test our craft, and project our work in to new spaces and audiences.
I hope my success will inspire you to keep striving.”

Celebrating its 25th annual exhibition in 2020, the Trinity Buoy Wharf (formerly‪ known as Jerwood Arts) Drawing Prize is the UK’s oldest & most prestigious open exhibition for drawing.

The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize project is led by founding Director, Professor Anita Taylor, and supported by the Trinity Buoy Wharf Trust.

Selected from original submissions, the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize and exhibition has an established reputation for its commitment to championing excellence and promoting and celebrating the breadth of contemporary drawing practice. The open exhibition provides a platform for drawing practitioners to showcase their work alongside other leading artists and makers in the field.

The exhibition is organized annually. The award winners are announced in London and finalist works are showcased in a yearlong travelling exhibition across the UK. While offering emerging, mid-career and established artists a platform to exhibit their work, the project has developed new insights into the role and value of drawing in creative practice today.
