Cohen-Solal book cover
Annie Cohen-Solal has won the prestigious literary award Prix Fémina 2021 for her biographical essay on Pablo Picasso, « Un étranger nommé Picasso » (Fayard editions).
The book focuses on Picasso’s struggles as a young foreigner in France and the difficulties he faced as an immigrant, suspected of anarchist sympathies, before his artistic success made him a welcome and celebrated member of the French art scene. It describes how Picasso managed by building strong connections with other foreigners and cosmopolitan personalities, and eventually became a powerful progressive in France. An exhibition curated by Annie Cohen-Solal opens at the Picasso museum on November 3rd.
