PCA MTNM Lunch Talk Presents: Jono Brandel

thumbnail-2

Transdisciplinary New Media Lunch Talks welcomes Jono Brandel. Jonathan (Jono) Brandel is an award winning graphic designer and computer programmer. He comes from diverse heritage, an American of Filipino and Polish descent. As such Jono pairs distinct subjects to frame the creative process. These combinations range from latin and emojis to lithography and pixel sorting. While pairings vary, his use of technology makes for an accessible tenor to the objects and experiences he produces. This attention to detail allows people to access complex subject matters including positivism, the collision of black holes, and music composition through simple gestures and vibrant moving images.A year and a half removed from his MFA in Transdisciplinary New Media, Jono shares his progressions through professional development through his latest project, Writing with Open Access. This interactive tool assembles images from the Smithsonian’s vast collection to support your writing in real-time. The project began as an artistic exploration of museum collections and through membership at the New Museum’s art, design, and technology incubator called NEW INC. And its current form is the result of a grant from the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum.
