Junior Fine Arts students Ekaterina Costa and Paola de la Peña, in collaboration with INSTITUT DES IDEES ACTIVES, created by concept researchers Virginia Naegelin and Christine Jardin, will be showing at Galerie Vitrine-65 from February 24 through 27, 2016.
“We began to recognise in them a strange obsession. After all, they are emotionally inexperienced, with only a few years in which to store up the experiences which you and I take for granted. If we gift them with a past, we create a cushion or a pillow for their emotions, and consequently, we can control them better.” – Eldon Tyrell, ‘Blade Runner’, 1982
Memories, we are talking about memories, catalogues of flashing images, seemingly random glimpses that we try to grasp before they disappear. Failing to hold onto their integrity, they act as the backdrop for manipulation, steering into a false interior with a noticeable absence of natural life.
It is this overload of artificial imagery that gets repeated, yet never sticks, that here acts as the donor; it is the support that guides us through all of the absurd falsity, giving what it can, if anything at all.
