Shrouded by Suzy O'Mullane

Suzy O’Mullane ’22, Master of Art in Drawing may have been born in Ireland but she feels equally at home in Paris now. O’Mullane revealed that Vèro Devoldère, her program Chair, personally persuaded her to choose PCA and continues to be part of the reason she knows it was the best choice. O’Mullane told us, “After chatting to Véro online, it felt like the right choice for me, particularly when she informed me that it was going to be a small group.” O’Mullane continued, “Véro and the other tutors are extremely generous in encouraging us to develop beyond our perceived limitations. One particular area I have found valuable is the regular presentations of our work-in-progress to our tutors and peers.” We know our small classes and unique department chairs are BIG influencers and we’re so glad our students think so, too! Here’s the sort & skinny…

Where do you call home?
Mostly Ireland, but feeling equally at home in Paris.

What inspired you to study at PCA?
I liked the drawing programme at PCA. It felt new and challenging to me. After chatting to Véro online, it felt like the right choice of MA for me, particularly when she informed me that it was going to be a small group. And of course, there’s Paris!

What do you feel is the most valuable thing you’ve learned or what has moved you the most about your program at PCA?
I needed to let go of some outdated practices and the Master’s programme definitely encouraged this. Véro and the other tutors are extremely generous in encouraging us to develop beyond our perceived limitations. One particular area I have found valuable is the regular presentations of our work in progress to our tutors and peers.

What is the most interesting or exciting element to you in regard to living & studying in Paris?
Access to museums, great cafés, galleries, excellent public transport. Improving my French petit à petit.
