GBFA Artist Talk with TT Takemoto, Artist and Experimental Filmmaker

GBFA Talks TT Takemoto

Join us for the last GBFA Artist Talk of the academic year, with San Francisco-based artist and experimental filmmaker TT Takemoto.

TT Takemoto is a queer Japanese American artist exploring Asian American history, sexuality, and identity. Takemoto interacts with found footage and archival materials through performance and labor-intensive processes of painting, lifting, and manipulating 16mm/35mm film emulsion using scotch tape, razor blades, and nail polish. Their films honor queer Asian Americans who lived, loved, and labored together during the prewar era and beyond.

Takemoto’s work has been exhibited at Oakland Museum of California, Chinese Culture Center, Asian Art Museum, Oceanside Museum of Art, GLBT History Museum, SF Camerawork, SOMArts, SFMOMA, and Vargas Museum.

Takemoto was awarded Grand Jury Prize for Best Experimental Film from Slamdance Film Festival and Best Experimental Film Jury Award at the Austin LGBT International Film Festival.
